The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust's mission is to preserve and restore San Joaquin River lands of ecological, scenic or historic significance, to educate the public on the need for stewardship, to research issues affecting the river, and to promote educational, recreational and agricultural uses of the river bottom consistent with the protection of the river’s resources. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit land trust, our first responsibility is to conserve and steward land. We do this through fee title acquisition and conservation easements with willing sellers along with habitat restoration projects. The Trust's original board recognized the importance of teaching the next generation of stewards about the San Joaquin River, and created a field trip program for local elementary schools. Our program offerings now include day camps during school breaks in Fresno and Madera Counties, including the rural community of Firebaugh. Community quality of life and recreation opportunities are enhanced by the Trust's work to build trails and manage properties for public access, along with providing beautiful event venues at the Coke Hallowell Center for River Studies (River Center) and Sumner Peck Ranch.
