Speaker Bio:
Debra Rush is a powerhouse in the fight against human trafficking and a champion for prevention education. She is the Co-Founder and CEO of Breaking the Chains, a leading organization that provides life-changing housing and trauma recovery services to survivors. Most recently, she founded Kendra’s Cause—a prevention education initiative inspired by the tragic loss of her daughter, Kendra—that exists to stop senseless acts of violence among youth and empower the next generation to choose healthier, safer paths.
With more than 15 years of experience as an advocate, case manager, and alcohol and drug counselor, Debra is a nationally recognized trailblazer in trauma-informed care. As a survivor herself, she brings unmatched passion, authenticity, and insight to her work, making her both a highly sought-after speaker and an inspiring author.
Debra is also a certified trainer for the State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), where she equips law enforcement across the state with tools to understand the complexities of trauma. She holds degrees in Human Services and Business, is currently pursuing her M.P.A., and is a Certified Trauma Professional.
Her leadership has been honored with prestigious awards, including the California State Assembly Woman of the Year and the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award. Beyond her professional work, Debra is a proud wife, mother, and grandmother, and an active member of the Fresno Chamber of Commerce and Fresno County Juvenile Justice Council. Debra’s journey is a living testament to resilience and hope, inspiring others to believe in the power of change and the possibility of a future free from violence and exploitation.
