2006 Mother of the Year: Bessie Gooch

Bessie Gooch rarely has to search for words. But there she was Thursday, standing almost silently on her southwest Fresno doorstep while family and friends congratulated her as Fresno County's 2006 Mother of the Year. Gooch's teary eyes and stunned look spoke to her surprise.Gooch, along with finalists Ursula Norby and Roselyn Clark, will be honored at a May 12 luncheon by the Fresno County Women's Chamber of Commerce. It is the chamber's 64th annual presentation of the award, which honors mothers who succeed in various arenas such as family, community and career.
